But, increasingly, people are becoming concerned that conventional paints can cause health problems and harm the environment. That’s why we launched earthBorn. It has been found that ingredients such as the solvents, acrylics and acrylic softeners used in most conventional paints are hazardous both to health and the environment. Many of you will have heard of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and be aware that these and other chemical compounds can cause chest complaints, aggravate allergies, contribute to the greenhouse effect and pollute the environment.

We have teamed up with a pioneering German manufacturer to provide you with a real choice when it comes to decorating. By careful selection of ingredients and technologically advanced manufacturing processes we are able to create outstanding products that prove our point. We take an holistic approach to paint, considering its potential environmental impact at every stage - manufacture, application, disposal and lifespan. During manufacture, we apply rigorous screening procedures to ensure that any effluent creates minimal pollution. During use, and thereafter, conventional paints and varnishes can release harmful solvents and compounds into the air. These contribute to depletion of the ozone layer and are known to be harmful to health, being carcinogenic and a cause of sick building syndrome. We believe it is important to be open about product ingredients. That is why we operate a policy of full disclosure and are happy to list our ingredients on product labels.
