European Union (EU) Ecolabel

The Department of Environment Food and Rural Affairs awarded the prestigious EU Ecolabel to earthBorn Claypaint in 2005. We are the only UK paint company to meet the Ecolabel’s strict environmental standards which cover every aspect of a product’s manufacture, use and disposal.

The Ecolabel flower symbol is your reassurance that the product has been independently tested and certified for minimal environmental impact.

Many paints, including Farrow and Ball, Little Greene Paint, Fired Earth, Crown, Dulux and Ecos make environmental claims about some or all of their ranges, but without the Ecolabel it is difficult for the environmentally aware consumer to buy with confidence.

TÜV

earthBorn proAqua Varnish and proAqua Eggshell are certified by the German testing authority TŨV to be totally free of VOCs and other harmful emissions.

TÜV Rheinland is one of the world's leading technical services companies, dedicated to the sustainable development of safety and quality in the interaction between man, technology and the environment. As an independent third party, TÜV Rheinland tests and certifies products, installations and services based on relevant performance indicators and standards.

VOCs in Paints Regulations 2005

The Regulations (also known as EU directive 2004.42/EC) set maximum levels of VOC content for paint and also require a label declaration of the content.. A further reduction in permitted content become effective in Jan 2010. Whilst many paint companies are now promoting the fact that their paints are 2010 compliant, it should be noted that the Regulations do not prohibit the use of VOCs and the only set a minimum standard. earthBorn paints contain ZERO VOCs and therefore far exceed the requirements of the legislation. For more information on VOCs see our glossary.

'House Beautiful' Best Eco Collection of the Year

earthBorn's 'Eco Chic' range was voted Best Eco Collection of the Year 2007 by House Beautiful magazine.
